Sundials are usually thought of as something decorative because their function of telling the time was superseded by the clock.

However, the sundial as a time-teller, simplifies the value of the geometric relationship between the sun and the earth. Historically, this relationship was the basis of many belief systems which understood that all life depends upon the daily passage of the sun across our sky.

Monumental sundials re-introduce the scale that is missing in the garden sundial and allow us once again to value the geometry of the cosmos.
